Highgreen’s peaceful setting and seemingly endless horizons provide the perfect environment for creative work of all kinds.

All our courses are residential and participants stay in the Manor itself. The cost of each course includes all teaching, meals and accommodation.  Most bedrooms are single so unless a course is heavily subscribed there is no need to share.

 

Brendan Kennelly   Courses, which include visual arts, creative writing and yoga, are run by visiting teachers for groups of up to 10 students at a time. We invite only experienced teachers on the basis of recommendations or personal contacts as we believe that the essential element for running a successful course is the quality of the teaching. Of course the right environment is equally important and we also work hard to ensure you are well looked after.   These are some of our teachers to date: poets and writers Brendan Kennelly, David Constantine, Susan Elderkin, Carole Satyamurti, Gregory Warren Wilson, Matthew Hollis, Antony Dunn ;yoga teachers Sophy Hoare, Catherine James, Chloe Fremantle, Mary Stewart, Pauline Sawyer; painters Oliver Bevan, Sebastian Lowsley-Williams.   Sebastian Lowsley-Williams

Highgreen has also provided the setting for some other interesting or unusual events.  Lannan Foundation filmed Bloodaxe poet Peter Reading recording his complete works in various locations in and around the place.  The front hall of the Manor was used as the location for the cover of Selima Hill's edition of poems Portrait Of My Lover As A Horse. New Writing North has also held week-end radio and screen writing events at Highgreen.
